Fascicle Selective Recording with a Nerve Cuff Electrode

چکیده
AB STRAC'T A multipolar split cuff electrode is used for fascicle selective recording of the electroneurogram (ENG) of the sciatic nerve of the rabbit. Several electrode configurations were evaluated with regarding to seleclivity: the peroneal and tibial nerves were stimulated alternately and the ENG was recorded at different sides of the sciatic nerve. The results for two electrode configurations are presented.

Selectivity of Recording of Neural Signals with Micromachined Intraneural Multi Electrodes
Absrract The number uf afferent fibers in a peripheral nerve fascicle and the electrical volume conduction in neuraI tissue determine the interelectrode spacing, needed for selective recording with mufticontact devices. These factors taking into account, and also assuming uniform distribution of fibers throughout the fascicle cross section, it is calculated that for selective sensing in peronea...

The use of nerve cuff electrodes as p a r t of a closed loop functional electrical stimulation (FES) system has been demonstrated as a reliable alternative to artificial sensors (e.g., strain gauge). T o circumvent the need for multiple electrodes to record neural activity f rom different fascicles within a nerve, the flat interface nerve electrode (FINE) is presented as a potential approach to...
متن کاملAlternative Paradigm of Selective Vagus Nerve Stimulation Tested on an Isolated Porcine Vagus Nerve
Alternative paradigm for spatial and fibre-type selective vagus nerve stimulation (VNS) was developed using realistic structural topography and tested in an isolated segment of a porcine cervical left vagus nerve (LVN). A spiral cuff (cuff) containing a matrix of ninety-nine electrodes was developed for selective VNS. A quasitrapezoidal stimulating pulse (stimulus) was applied to the LVN via an...
متن کاملHuman distal sciatic nerve fascicular anatomy: implications for ankle control using nerve-cuff electrodes.
The design of neural prostheses to restore standing balance, prevent foot drop, or provide active propulsion during ambulation requires detailed knowledge of the distal sciatic nerve anatomy. Three complete sciatic nerves and branches were dissected from the piriformis to each muscle entry point to characterize the branching patterns and diameters. Fascicle maps were created from serial section...
متن کامل18polar Hybrid Cuff Electrodes for Stimulation of Peripheral Nerves
For restoration of neuro-muscular functions in disabled people, cuff type electrodes have been used for several 10 years. A lot of experiences were collected using 12polar electrodes, which consisted of silicone tubes, carrying 4 stimulation tripoles, each tripole orientated longitudinally to the nerve. The tripoles were at 0°, 90°, 180°, and 270° position around the nerve. It is obvious that t...
